The Rita Lynch archive is a family archive detailing the life of the Macroom, County Cork, soprano, Rita Lynch. Born in 1914, Rita died in 2009 and left behind a wealth of materials linked to her which hold a great personal, musical and historical significance. The creation of an online exhibit (a cross institutional partnership between Cork City Library and UCC) centred around these archival materials will form part of the centenary celebrations planned to mark the one hundredth anniversary of her birth.
The Rita Lynch archive consists of programmes, press clippings, correspondences (letters, cards, and telegrams), photographs and business contracts collected and curated by Rita’s daughter, Mary Davies. Wrapped around the personal archive of Rita Lynch is a wealth of social and political history. These range from the advertisements for local businesses contained within her concert programmes, the nuances of daily life found
in personal correspondence and the news stories of the day which appear alongside press clippings of Rita’s successes.
